How Our Crochet Bouquets Are Handmade by Women Artisans

A thread of care in every stem, a story in every stitch.

At  The Kalaa Store , every bouquet begins not in a factory, but in a living room, a village  workshop, or a sunlit balcony, wherever our women artisans find the space and time to  sit down with their yarn, hook, and heart. Our  crochet bouquets  aren’t mass produced.  They’re patiently handcrafted by women artisans of the Kalaa Sakhi sisterhood. This  artisan community, spread across 3 states in North India, keeps traditional skills alive  while building new futures - one flower at a time.

What makes our bouquets special isn’t just the delicate yarn, the hand-picked colour  palettes, or the fact that they last forever. It’s the hands that make them. Many of our  artisans are first-generation crocheters women who’ve learned the craft through our  training programmes and now work on their own terms, from their homes or local  centres. Some craft in between running errands. Others finish flowers while their babies  nap. This is what flexible, dignified work looks like and it shows in every petal.

When you hold a bouquet from us, you’re holding hours of quiet dedication. Each  flower  is crocheted individually, then assembled into stems, wrapped, and arranged into  bunches that can be personalized for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and  sustainable gifting. It’s a slow process, the kind that machines can’t replicate. But that’s  exactly why it’s worth it.

Every crochet flower is also tagged with a QR code that lets you meet the woman  behind your bouquet. You’ll see her name, the centre she works from, and  her story  because traceability isn’t just about ethics, it’s about connection. These aren’t just  handmade gifts, they’re gifts with meaning.

And while each bouquet blooms beautifully on the outside, the impact travels deeper. By  shopping from Kalaa, you’re directly supporting women from underserved communities  in India, many of whom are primary earners in their households. Your purchase helps  fund training, raw material support, and continuous income for these makers. It’s  fashion with fairness, and gifting with grace.

We’ve seen our crochet flower bouquets used in the most beautiful ways as bridal  bouquets, bridesmaid proposals, corporate welcome kits, proposal boxes, and birthday  gifts. They stay on desks, in homes, and in hearts - a soft and sustainable alternative to  cut flowers that wilt in days.

There’s something poetic about giving someone a bouquet that doesn’t fade. Something  even more powerful when you know it was made by a real person, with a real story, and  a whole lot of skill.

This is what handmade looks like and we’re so proud to be building a world where  women’s hands are at the centre of it.
